Horses Write In

Howdy, my name is Charlie Horse and this is my intro. I'm gonna host this spot for equines to voice our opinions and try to teach our humans the right way! We have been in need of a way to get our message out to those human critters for a long time! You know what I mean? This will be our way of tellin' it from the Horses Point of View.

I'm an awesome Morgan and I live in Washington State. I was a packhorse so my experience on the trails is excellent. My last human was a little naïve about how to properly feed me and my human now is doing a much better job. I have her wrapped around my right hoof and it sure has made life a lot easier for this old boy. I've been around for about 25 of what humans call years. They sure are silly about countin' time. LOW (that is Internet lingo for Lots Of Whinnies). To us time means nothin'! When we are doin' somethin', we do it till we are through then we do somethin' else. When we are eatin', we eat till we're through. When we are sleepin', we sleep till we're through. When we are runnin' from the horse-eatin' mailbox, we run till we're through. No time limits, no pressure, no stress. The stress only comes to us through our humans and that is the very reason for this column.

Now I'm not sayin' that all humans are bad, it's just like us, some are great (like myself), some good, some not so good and some down right nasty, like my pasture mate, Kelly! Of course we have to keep our minds open when training our humans and do not judge them too soon. There is hope for most of them and patience can pay off.

Take my friend, old Sally, she had this lady take her into her small herd, about 5 years ago according to her human and is now finally seeing some small improvements. For example, Sally was down right sick of the mud this winter and she sulked all over the place until her human took her to a new pasture where there was actually some green grass for her to frolic in and only one of her other friends, Gypsy. She is having a great time runnin' and jumpin', orderin' Gypsy around and getting' all the food she wants. She's an old girl but we don't know how old (there's that human thing again) cause Sally won't say. Her human said the vet thinks Sally is 30 somethin' but the way she is cavortin' around out there Sally can't be that old! LOW

I think this goes to show that communication with humans is possible so don't give up hope. Maybe I can get Sally to tell us some of her trainin' stories next time. Also, if any of you would care to send me your stories about your humans, I'm sure we would all like to hear them. We can all learn from other's mistakes and triumphs. Just send in an email and the staff at AGS Internet has assured me that they will pass it on to me.

Until I do this again,
Charlie Horse
